Highlights
Here's a brief look at the highlights
of the second half of 2003 in Porto de Moz

In July we had the privilege of hosting a work team from Corvallis and Grants Pass, Oregon. The team helped with prayer ministry and children's ministry at our July conference, ministered on the rivers, and also laid the foundation for a pastoral house on our church lot. This visit was a total blessing!

Also in July we received a special visit from Heidi's parents, sister and brother-in-law. Taking advantage of the opportunity, we headed for the beach on the Atlantic Ocean at Salinopolis and enjoyed some shopping in Belém, thus marking our first-ever Brazilian family reunion. It was a super vacation, and a memorable time for Tim to get to know his grandparents!

In August our church hosted a special birthday party for the 15-year-old girls of the congregation, under the direction of missionary Lyn Town. Fifteen years is considered the age of passage from childhood to adulthood for Brazilian girls. The party gave us the opportunity to pray for the girls and dedicate them to the Lord's service.

Also in August Railson led a group of 15 young men on a "Survival & Bible" retreat into the bush. The retreat lasted 3 days, during which the guys had to fend for themselves, working together to build sleeping barracks and hunt for meals.

In September, Stu and Lyn Town went on furlough to Canada, leaving us with their boat and a few of their ministry responsibilities on the river. Every Thursday night, Railson holds a service in the village of Turú several hours upriver where Stu has opened a work.

Recently, we sent our worship leader and another worker to Almerim to begin teaching the new fellowship some basics of praise and worship. They were well received and had an excellent time.

The 10th of September marked the second anniversary of Heidi's nutrition project specializing in breast-feeding promotion. More than 1,070 infants have been enrolled in the program. The event was celebrated at the community hospital together with all hospital staff and many community workers.
