News from the Field
September/October 2002

We want to first thank our faithful supporters for standing with us through the various transitions of the last year. Financially, we have been blessed, even to the point of seeing our personal funds overflow to support larger activities such as the radio program. Alas, we have one more transition for you. For those who send donations to the Xingu Mission, please note that the US office has changed cities. The new address is:

            The Xingu Mission
            PO Box 340785
            Columbus, OH 43234-0785

Mailings sent to the old PO Box 1218 address will be forwarded for a year.

In August, Heidi had the privilege of accompanying a medical evangelism team to the interior for six days. In all, she was able to do more than 150 nutritional consultations and translate for an evening service. The photos in this letter were taken during that trip.

Recently we showed the Jesus Film (in Portuguese) in an open air setting near our home. What a success! More than 100 adults, most of whom had never heard the "true" story of Jesus, watched the film from beginning to end.

On the subject of films, our worship minister and we have been taking in a variety of teaching videos produced through Vineyard Brazil. It is wonderful to have the down-to-earth teachings of Roger Williams, Ken Blue, Steve Nicholson and others translated into Portuguese—something for which we’ve waited a long time. We are also enthusiastic about the variety and quality of Vineyard music translated into Portuguese that is now available to us, as well as the new songs that are originating in Portuguese.

We are encouraged by the marked increase in the maturity of our congregation, and numbers are slowly but steadily increasing. As Railson says, the church is doing so well, it scarcely needs us anymore. Since church planting is on our hearts, we are already scanning the horizon to see where God may be leading us next. It is possible that within 1-2 years, we will be able to start a new plant. Please pray with us for us to clearly see the Lord’s direction.

The radio program is a continued blessing. Unchurched people have been commenting that they like the lyrics of the Christian songs.

May the King of Kings draw you closer to Him.

Our love,
Railson & Heidi
